About Against the Grain Education
With over 20 years of teaching experience.
For the young people who don’t fit the system — and the families who refuse to let them fall through the cracks.
ATG exists for learners who sit in the grey area: not thriving in mainstream education, yet not “eligible” for SEND provision. We support neurodivergent, anxious, sensitive and school-avoidant young people who need something different – something built around them, not against them.
We create a place where students can learn, heal and belong without changing who they are.
Through individualised support, trauma-informed practice and meaningful pathways to qualifications, ATG gives young people a future that feels possible again.

Becky is the founder and heart behind Tilly’s Tutoring and Against the Grain Education, bringing years of experience, patience, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. With a strong background in education and personalised instruction, she has supported learners of all ages in building confidence, mastering challenging subjects, and discovering a love for learning.
Becky believes that every student learns differently. That’s why she specialises in creating custom, engaging lessons tailored to each child’s strengths, struggles, and learning style. Her warm, encouraging approach helps students feel supported, motivated, and capable of achieving their goals.
When she’s not tutoring, Becky enjoys staying connected with the latest educational strategies, exploring creative teaching tools, and building a tutoring community where students feel inspired to do their best.

Tilly’s Tutoring is a dedicated local tuition company specialising in personalised education from Early Years through to A-Level. Offering tailored support in core subjects such as Maths, English, and Science, along with many other subjects, our experienced and passionate tutors are committed to helping each student thrive on their individual learning journey.
Whether through one-on-one sessions or small group classes, we focus on building confidence and academic success in a nurturing environment.
At the heart of Tilly’s Tutoring is Becky, a knowledgeable educator who home-schooled her own daughter. With a wealth of experience in home education, Becky provides invaluable guidance to families exploring this path. She offers comprehensive support, from the process of deregistering from school to creating a curriculum that fits each child’s unique needs, as well as assistance with exam preparation and bookings.
